Feed Buffalo CoVid Response: 2/23/21

Our healthy and halal buffalo food pantry is currently operating as an EMERGENCY RESPONSE CENTER 7 days a week due to CoVid-19. Curbside drop-off and pick-up are in place for safety purposes. We are very short-staffed due to CoVid and kindly request your patience as we try to meet all requests in a timely manner. Please call 211 for a list of available pantries if we are not able to serve you right away. Be Well !

RAMADAN FOOD GIVEAWAY!

We gave away 163 healthy bags to our Muslim neighbors for our 2nd Annual Pre-Ramadan Healthy Food Giveaway. We are so grateful for the community support from Say Yes, Renovation Church, and Seeding Resilience for this effort.

Our Beginning

Feed Buffalo took root inside of founder, Drea d’Nur, out of a need to feed her own muslim family. After visiting several pantries, she noticed that none of them had halal food. She was determined to create a community pantry with healthy options that included halal food. D’Nur is working to heal communities with a healthy food initiative that incorporates Buffalo’s underprivileged communities, especially muslim refugee and poor black communities.

“No community should be exempt from healthy food access that honors their dietary restrictions.”

— Drea d’nur, FOUNDER

Feed Buffalo has officially completed the Little Free Pantry Project! See some of our work HERE! Imagine Healthy, Low-Sodium, Sugar-Free non-perishable items, toiletries and hygiene products in a Little, Tiny pantry that anyone could access. We collaborated with The Foundry, a local makerspace, to build satellite food access centers that will be stocked by community volunteers. Pantries will be installed, hopefully, this summer 2020.

Our Vision

We envision a network of locally-sourced, healthy and halal food pantries that serve foods that will heal the community. We are focused on:

  • HEALTHY FOOD ACCESS. To make locally-sourced, healthy and halal food accessible to underserved food deserts in WNY.

  • HEALTHY FOOD EDUCATION. We will host cooking demos, provide free locally-sourced, healthy and halal food recipes, and offer support with healthy food budgeting with a focus on single Mothers.

  • HEALTHY FOOD HOME DELIVERY PROGRAM. For seniors and widows, especially.

  • COMMUNITY GARDEN. We see ourselves partnering with urban growers who have a passion and knowledge for Earthkeeping.

  • WOMEN’S EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM. We are excited to provide work and more for women who understand how important it is to give food away in a clean environment.

Get Involved

If you want to help heal the community, get involved today. We accept volunteers regardless of skill level. There is a rotation in roles, but we’ll teach you all the skills you need to know. Students can earn community service credits for school in addition to getting food for their families. Donations are also vital to our growth, as we use them for building materials, food education classes, food transportation services and outreach.
